Oh, so fresh and soft!
Something about this time of year always gets us super stoked at the bike park. The sweet smells of the forest coming back to life from the sheltered winter. The dirt all puffed out from the snow melt, ready for tires from riders to smash it back in place. This time of year is the calm before the storm of riders that descend into Angel Fire Bike Park for opening day Friday, May 19.
This year we saw a record windy season. Several hundred blow down trees were littered throughout the bike park. A bridge was destroyed on Supreme DH and a myriad of snags were all over the trails. It was also a super snowy April and has limited the amount of early season access we’ve had at the end of April.
Devinci's Code was corridored and benched in October last year. As soon as the snow melts we have plans to get on it and open as early as we can. Going forward, it looks like we’ll have a super sunny week with warm temperatures in the forecast. It should make for some super amazing conditions opening weekend. I can’t guarantee what will be open as there will most likely be trails that end up opening throughout the weekend, but I can tell you that we will be at least 70% open and with 60+ miles of downhill flow, the available trails won’t disappoint.
For activities this weekend, look forward to Commencal demo bikes at the base of the lift. They will have their latest and greatest bikes for public consumption. Also, Kyle Strait will be here and if you can keep up, will be shredding the park most of the weekend!
Don’t forget, we will be kicking off the first race in the Fire 5 race series on Saturday, May 20. This year you only have to race three out of five to qualify for the overall. With 10,000 cash and another 10,000 in prizes littered throughout the series and the fact you don’t have to have a racing license to participate, why wouldn’t you test your skills and compete for glory? Register now!
Looking forward to seeing you shred this season,
