JACKSON, WY – Now in its 4th year, the Annual 'Best Bike Parks Riders' Choice Awards' continues to be a hallmark of the beginning of our riding season. Once the polls close, we revel in the results of the survey, getting stoked for the season to come.
While many of us take to skis and snowboards in the winter months, the time between our chairlift seasons can seem like an eternity. Most bike parks are buried, and even for those of us who love playing in powder, months without riding two wheels can be torture. Slow, painful torture. Sure, some of us are lucky enough to live in sunny climes and ride year-round, or we get breaks in the weather to sneak in some shuttle runs and pedal some laps, but many resorts are giving riders winter options. Here's a list of upcoming winter bike events going on at bike parks around North America to keep you shredding until the snow melts.
VERNON, BC – Silver Star Bike Park has announced its second annual Frosty Fox Fat Bike Festival on Saturday, February 25. JACKSON, WY – Now in its third year, the MTBparks.com Riders’ Choice Awards survey carries with it an undeniable momentum, and for us, has become an official start to the summer riding season. This year, with increased participation and some surprising rankings, we found ourselves watching the top spots change constantly in the 11th hour as the final flood of votes poured in; it’s become our Super Bowl. And then on Super Tuesday, as we compiled the results while much of the country kicked off a heated election season, we couldn’t help but draw parallels to our nation’s politics.
SILVER STAR, BC — Silver Star Bike Park issued its first official update of the 2015 season. While there's still plenty of the white stuff on the slopes, bike park director Cam Sorenson is already looking forward to a June 20 opening "bonus" weekend, summer and what it means for new trails and and events as the park embarks on a three-year major expansion plan. On the radar are expansions and improvements to Jedi Mind Trick, Beowulf and Walk the Line, as well as summer events including the BC Cup, FMB Slopestyle and BC Enduro Series. Like to dig? Silver Star Bike Park is also taking applications for trail builders. Details after the break.
SILVERSTAR, BC — Western Canada's first—and only—sanctioned downhill snow race returned to Silver Star resort this past weekend. Now in its third year, FrostBIKE 2015 saw bikes assault the ski slopes at the first official stop of the BC Cup in a test of will and traction as racers vied for a top spot, struggling to keep the rubber side down on the event's fastest course to date.
As the days grow longer and the mercury rises, the white stuff begins to melt into the sort of primordial muck that makes snaggletoothed Englishmen into the stuff of legend (I’m looking at you, Danny Hart). But that too will soon give way to the tack and loam that only exist in magical fleeting moments upon the calendar or after a summer rain—the sort of dirt that allows any of us ride like gods, offering Velcro-like grip regardless of how on point our cornering skills are after a winter spent hibernating on the sofa. No one will believe how perfectly you roosted that first turn—no one. But until those perfect days are upon us, here are some early spring riding events and races in (mostly) dry and warm destinations to get you riding long before the nostril faucets stop dripping.
