VERNON, NJ – When nine-time X Games BMX gold medalist Scotty Cranmer visits Mountain Creek Bike Park with his little brother and a friend, the BMXers are a little thrown off by how "soft" downhill bikes are, but it doesn't take them long to learn how to send it.

VERNON, NJ –  Mother Nature apparently has had riding on her mind and gifted the East Coast with warm temperatures throughout a majority of the winter. The Mountain Creek Bike Park Trail Crüe was able to start trail work in early March and by the middle of the month the signs were there that the mountain would be ready sooner than anticipated.

MCBP decided to give the riders what they were asking for and opened the doors ahead of schedule on Saturday, April 2, a full 4 weeks ahead of the scheduled opening day! More than 300 riders from all over the east coast descended on the bike park to get first runs of the season. What started as a rainy April morning quickly turned a sun filled day with fun, tacky trails. Mountain Creek Bike Park is open weekends until mid-June, then seven days a week through the summer.

New for 2016 at Mountain Creek Bike Park

alt

Mountain Creek recently added three new trails: Candyland, DMHL and 99. The crew also re-imagined its signature freeride trail–Alpine and expanded the park's cross-country trail network, adding several new loop extensions. Salvation received an all-new bridge that functions as an over-under to improve the flow of on-mountain traffic for nonstop fun! Lower Deviant was re-constructed with new berms and more beginner to intermediate table tops. Last season the all-new top to bottom Greenhorn beginner trail opened, creating the longest and easiest route down the mountain. Mountain Creek Bike Park is also building a new jump line for the expert riders.

What's next?

"We love mountain biking and can’t wait to share it with the world!" said park representative, Kara Chase. "In 2016, Mountain Creek will invest heavily on the beginner segment by creating even more new terrain for novice riders including new beginner trails and skill builder zones. In addition to adding beginner terrain, our flagship jump-line will be extended with tons of new features and options. These developments are merely the tip of the iceberg for what’s to come in 2016."

From foam pits for practicing your next big move, to massive slopestyle lines, this is a great place to progress on manmade features. Flow abounds, but there's also plenty of steeps, rocks and roots to pacify the purists. The "Find Your Ride" program is perfect for bringing a buddy who's been wanting to give two wheels a shot. The BEERkery in Norhfield is a great place to combine your love of fresh baked carbs and microwbrews.

The Garden State's one and only option for lift-served gravity goodness, Mountain Creek doesn't disappoint. While there are some manmade features to be found at Blue Mountain Bike Park, the majority of the trails are more roughed in singletrack than sculpted flow. Loose rocks and natural terrain make up the downhill courses, which is just fine by us. The newest expert freeride trail, Empire, is an exception to the rule, offering up high-speed tabletops, berms and features. A custom-built bike park concept from the beginning, Bryce Bike Park is the brainchild of Gravity Logic, 402 Trails and Trek bikes. Being planned and built all at once as opposed to evolving over the years gives it a decidely modern feel with plenty of flow and both vert and real estate are well used, making the 500 feet of vert feel like much more. New features and trails are still being added, and gravity bikes are welcome, but there's plenty of fun to be had here on an all-mountain/enduro rig. Like many East coast parks, Bryce can be downright magical in the fall when the leaves change.

VERNON, NJ – The second stop of the 2015 Eastern Enduro Triple Crown Series hit Mountain Creek Bike Park for the King of the Mountain Enduro this past weekend.

This year, both the pro and amateur racers tested themselves against all the same five timed stages over Mountain Creek’s world-renowned rocky terrain.

“The sport of Enduro has been evolving since we first launched the King of the Mountain in 2012. It really is amazing what these competitors are tackling on their ‘light’ bikes, and after last year’s race a lot of the amateurs commented to us about how they wanted to race all the stages," said Marc Tremain, Mountain Creek Bike Park operations manager, in a press release.

The King of the Mountain was the second in the Triple Crown Enduro Series, which kicked off at Q Burke with the Kingdom Enduro and will wrap up with the Overmountain Enduro October 25 at Highland Mountain Bike Park.

VERNON, NJ – September 28, 2015 – The second stop of the 2015 Eastern Enduro Triple Crown Series will head to Mountain Creek Bike Park in Vernon, NJ, this weekend for the King of the Mountain Enduro. Now in its fourth year, this year’s King of the Mountain promises to be the biggest and best one yet.

With racer entries being capped at 250 participants racers are encouraged to register prior to the pre-registration cut-off deadline at 11:45 p.m. on Wednesday September 30 to ensure their spot in the starting gates.

New for this year: Both the Pro and Amateur racers will get to test themselves against all five timed stages over Mountain Creek’s world-renowned rocky terrain.

“The sport of Enduro has been evolving since we first launched the King of the Mountain in 2012. It really is amazing what these competitors are tackling on their ‘light’ bikes, and after last year’s race a lot of the amateurs commented to us about how they wanted to race all the stages. So, this year we’re giving the racers what they want and everyone will get their chance to run all the stages,” said Marc Tremain, bike park operations manager.

Also new for this year, the Triple Crown Series has added a 14 & Under category to give the youngest racers a better competitive experience.

To add to the excitement and to prevent any unfair advantages in training, Mountain Creek will not be releasing course maps and profiles until Thursday afternoon this week. As in previous years racers should expect courses that will utilize all the great technical terrain that Mountain Creek has to offer from the existing downhill and cross-country trails, to new terrain previously not open for biking. Racers should also expect that the timed stages may include up to 20 percent climbing with more significant climbing on the transport stages. Racers will need to choose their bikes wisely. As in true enduro format, racers will be required to complete the entire race on the same bike and be 100-percent self-sufficient on the trails.

With the summer months dropping off the calendar one by one and the days growing shorter, many of us begin to go into bike park panic mode. In many parts of the country, even our local trails aren't accessible all year long, let alone the lift-served gravity goodness that has become a beacon of the summer months for those seeking a downhill fix.

In the mountains, the leaves will soon begin to change and morning frost will be a more frequent occurence and and before long, resorts will begin to prep for ski season. This means for many of us the chairlift clock is ticking. But considering that many bike parks spin the lifts well into October, the more optimistic among us might say that the season is still half full.

With that in mind, we thought we'd put together some regional road trip guides to help you make the most of your MTBparks Pass while there are still some downhill days on the calendar.

Part two of our Bike Park Road Trip offers riders a taste of many of the best bike parks across the East from spanning from Sugarloaf, NB to Bailey Mountain Bike Park, NC, with fifteen stops along the way.  Armed with an MTBparks Pass, on sale now with late season pricing of just $99, your cost per park visit would amount to a measley five bucks and change for each day of riding.

If you're jonsing for a taste of riding in the western US, you'll want to check out our guide to riding the Wild West here

RIDING LIKE A BEAST IN THE EAST

Appalachia is soon to be on fire with the color of the changing leaves and with plenty of snow in the forecast, you may be tempted to hang up the bikes and tune the skis—but you've still got some of the most magical months on the calendar left to shred! With so many resorts close to each other, it's easy to put together some long weekends in your region, but in case you're inclined to make one last run at racking up some vert, here's a handy guide for using your MTBparks Pass to ride the East like a beast without running up a monster tab in lift tickets.

SUNDAY RIVER BIKE PARK | NEWRY, ME

SUNDAY RIVER BIKE PARK | MTBPARKS.COM

Sunday River's Chondola (yes, you read that right) lift delivers riders to the top of 1,150 feet of Maine's finest technical terrain with options amounting to more than 20 miles of riding. No different than the mountain's winter reputation, most of the terrain found here is intermediate to advanced with plenty of tech and a good helping of New England "slick rock." But the mountain has been working to add machine built flow, jumps and features. Sunday River Brewing Company's Mountain Momma IPA will be calling your name after some hard laps.

STATS
Bike Park Vert: 1,149

ATTITASH BIKE PARK | BARTLETT, NH

ATTITASH BIKE PARK | MTBPARKS.COM

You'd be remiss to skip a stop at Attitash while in the New England region. Attitash offers up nearly 900 feet of vertical drop, and the newly opened Flying Bear chairlift allows bikers to access Bear Peak in the summer months for an additional 600 feet of descending. There are 33 downhill trails between the two mountains with plenty of steeps, rocks and roots. Swing by Matty B's in Bartlett for a pie and a pitcher after a day on the hill.

WHITEFACE MOUNTAIN BIKE PARK | WHITEFACE, NY

WHITEFACE BIKE PARK | FREE LIFT TICKETS | MTBPARKS PASS

With the largest vertical drop on the Atlantic seaboard to its credit, Whiteface is known for East Coast gnar. Although a bit secluded, this resort is worth the drive. The Cloudsplitter gondola delivers you to the summit of Little Whiteface, where you're only trail options are black and double-black. Big bike territory without a doubt, Whiteface features slabs, drops and steeps with runs that average about 40 minutes. Beginner and intermediate riders can access more progressive terrain via a shuttle that leaves the base twice per hour. You can take a trail bike to a local cliff diving spot to cool off at the end of the day. Nothing relaxes you after a long, adrenaline-addled day like hucking a 60-footer. BLUE MOUNTAIN BIKE PARK, PA | FREE GONDOLA | MTBPARKS.COM

The Slopeside Pub and Grill is a good spot for live music and cold drinks.

TIMBERLINE BIKE PARK | DAVIS, WV

TIMBERLINE BIKE PARK | FREE LIFT TICKETS | MTBPARKS PASS

Timberline's trails are mostly natural fall-line trails etched into the tacky West Virginia soil. Ungroomed and raw, there are a few jumps and small features thrown in for good measure, but don't expect sculpted sidewalks here. Raw and real, Timberline is reminiscent of upstate New York tech mixed with tacky southern soil.

BRYCE BIKE PARK | BASYE, VA

BRYCE BIKE PARK | FREE LIFT TICKETS | MTBPARKS PASS

A custom-built bike park concept from the beginning, Bryce Bike Park is the brainchild of Gravity Logic, 402 Trails and Trek bikes. Being planned and built all at once as opposed to evolving over the years gives it a decidely modern feel with plenty of flow and both vert and real estate are well used, making the 500 feet of vert feel like much more. New features and trails are still being added, and gravity bikes are welcome, but there's plenty of fun to be had here on an all-mountain/enduro rig. Like many east coast parks, Bryce can be downright magical in the fall when the leaves change.

With six downhill trails currently on tap via reservation-only shuttle service, plenty more are in the works, as are plans for a chairlift. Just a short 20-minute drive from the urban center of Asheville, more than 1,000 vertical feet of year-round riding sounds like a recipe for success to us.

2015 BEST BIKE PARKS | ANGEL FIREMountain Creek Bike Park: Voted Best Bike Park in the Mid-Atlantic/Southeast region in the 2013 and 2014 MTBparks Riders' Choice Awards.

Mountain Creek Bike Park is a two-time Best Bike Park winner in the MTBparks.com Riders' Choice Best Bike Parks Awards for the Mid Atlantic/Southeast Region and offers one of the longest lift-served riding seasons in North America. The park's vision is to provide a world-class trail network of purposefully designed and immaculately maintained natural terrain and man-made features.

Mountain Creek Bike Park boasts more trails than any other park in the region. The park offers a mix of downhill, freeride and cross-country trails, making it a perfect destination for anyone who loves mountain biking. In recent years, the park has undergone an ambitious expansion and trail building program, employing the talents of freeride legend Jeff Lenosky who introduced several higher-end, Lenosky signature features.

"We're excited to be working with Mountain Creek again, and proud to have their support in the MTBparks Pass program," said Michelle Good, MTBparks.com founder. "The primary goal of the MTBparks Pass is to give riders a chance to sample some of North America's best lift-served riding, whether you want to check out different resorts in your own region or plan an epic road trip across the continent this summer. It's a spin on the traditional season pass. Instead of free days at only one resort, the MTBparks Pass gives riders a free day at many different resorts30 to dateamong other perks. At just $149 it pays for itself in a matter of days."

The first of its kind, the MTBparks Pass includes a wide range of deals, including free and discounted lift tickets, bike shop and rental discounts, exclusive gear deals and more all for one low price. Call your friends, pack your gear, stock the cooler and fill the tank, you have miles of vert to burn across the continent at some of the finest lift-assisted singletrack in North America, all courtesy of MTBparks.com.
