Women are taking to two wheels more than ever before—from the local pump track to World Cup downhill courses. Red Bull published its list of Mountain Biking's Five Fastest Females (see below), and we thought it was a killer list worth sharing, but thought we'd add a few of our own favorite lady shredders in honor of International Women's Day.
PARK CITY, UT – Utah is in many ways synonymous with mountain biking, and has some of the most well-known destinations for everything from cross-country to freeride. But none offer the variety, scale, acceessibility, amenities and chairlifts of Park City.
MOAB, UT – The 2017 Moab THAW hosted by Poison Spider Bicycles will be held March 10 through 12 in Moab, UT, and feature demos, organized rides, parties—and even bowling. The annual spring event—now in its 7th “official” year run by Poison Spider (the event was previously a Yeti Cycles spring demo)—is gaining momentum as an annual tradition kicking off the mountain bike season in Moab.
KELOWNA, BC –Big White Ski Resortrecently announced it has begun construction and plans to open Bike Big White, a new lift-served bike park, in 2017. The resort says to expect "a world-class, lift-served mountain bike trail network with hundredss of acres of gravity fed trails, terrain parks, pump tracks and freestyle training facilities."
BASYE, VA – Bryce Bike Park has re-imagined the downhill run Pickleback as its new signature black diamond jump trail. The trail is approximately 90 percent complete and currently open to riders during normal park hours, with completion scheduled by the weekend of November 19 and 20.
GOVERNMENT CAMP, OR – Skibowl Bike Park at Mt. Hood will open for a night session Friday, September 23, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. making it quite possibly the first lift-served bike park in North America to do so.
WINTER PARK, CO –Trestle Bike Park has announced it will open three new trails this weekend, the first to officially open under the Phase 2 Backside Expansion announced last year. Upper Boulevard, Spicy Chicken and Dyno Bones will be accessible via the Olympia lift beginning Saturday, September 3, and remain open for the rest of the 2016 season and beyond.
WHISTLER, BC / BROOMFIELD, CO – Vail Resorts Inc. reported today that it will acquire 100 percent of Whistler Blackcomb Holdings, Inc., including the Whistler Mountain Bike Park, for $1.4 billion CAD (approximately $1.06 billion USD). Vail said the deal aims to further diversify its resort locations and expand access under its season pass programs such as the Epic Pass. Changes which will take effect for the 2017 / 2018 winter season.
ANGEL FIRE, NM – Angel Fire Bike Park, the three-time rider-voted "Best in the Southwest," rolled out the brown carpet last Thursday for 2016's official season opener. A few inches of unexpected snow the day before meant tacky hero-dirt conditions as the skies cleared and the sun came out for the remainder of the weekend with more than 75 percent of trails open and in prime condition.
