While no official reason has been cited, riders speculate that the increasingly rowdy nature of the "party on the rock" has recently grown to the point of interfering in the race, causing Whistler's new owner, Vail Resorts, to nix the tradition for safety's sake. WHISTLER, BC – Crews at the Whistler Mountain Bike Park have broken ground on 9 miles (15 kilometers) of new trails in the Creekside Zone. The five new trails will increase the amount of lift accessible riding in the Whistler Mountain Bike Park by 20 percent, according to the resort. Whistler anticipates that all five new Creekside trails will be ready by the planned June 2018 opening of the Creekside Gondola.
