Boulder City, NV – As big as 27.5 is among the enduro mountain bike race scene, the middle-child of the wheel brood is among the biggest news in downhill mountain biking this year at Interbike. And from all perspectives, it seems that 2015 is going to be a big year for riders searching for a faster way down the mountain. Specifically, a rig featuring improved roll over and angles of attack in a straighline, as well as improved traction in all conditions without giving up anything in the handling–or travel—departments. MTBparks.com set contributing ambassador Matt Reichel up with a press pass to this year's Interbike Outdoor Demo at Bootleg Canyon and asked him to put a few of the top contenders to the test.
Park City Mountain Resort, UT – While the cycling world has been focused on all things #Interbike this week, big news was happening in the land of lift-access resorts. After months of litigation and a feared possible shutdown this season of one of Utah's most popular ski resorts, Vail Resorts on Thursday agreed to buy out Park City Mountain Resort
Las Vegas, NV – For the last year MTBparks.com has been following the possible development of a lift-served bike park operation at Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort. Angel Fire, NM – Angel Fire Bike Park is the place to be this Labor Day Weekend when the mountain hosts the second annual Gravity Games & Brewfest. Yep, two of your favorite things wrapped up into one kick-ass weekend. Festivities include a whip-off and longjump competition, downhill racing, a free movie showing, a run for the world’s longest Boulder Dash train, and lots of tasty craft brew sampling. This may be just what you're looking for if you're still trying to decide what to do this weekend.
Discovery Bike Park, MT – While riding in Big Sky, everyone was telling to check out the Disco Bike Park. It was on my way to Whitefish, MT so I decided I would make the stop. Located near a Philipsburg, MT it was at a small local mountain called Discovery. To reach the bike park you take an old logging road to the backside of the resort. It has a parking area where the bikers circle the wagons for a day of riding. There is no electricity so the chair lift runs on diesel. Just based on the access to this place, I knew it was gonna be a sick park!
The term "Big" does not convey the type of riding you'll encounter at Big Sky Bike Park. The terrain is steep, loose, and unforgiving. Exactly what the majority of us gravity hungry riders are constantly seeking. Within the first couple of runs, the mountain had already devoured a pair of brake pads and the early season symptoms of hand pump had returned.
Mammoth Bike Park, CA – After setting a world record with his back flip drop at last year's Red Bull Rampage, Cam Zink hits the dirt again today at Mammoth Mountain to set yet another record. This time around he is going the distance.
MTBparks Staff Review: For the 2014 season I finally decided to purchase a neck brace. With more and more of them showing up at bike parks I figured they had to be doing something right. So I started doing some research looking for a simple brace in a median price range and decided I was going to skip the carbon option and go with a composite set up.
Santa Monica, CA – Around the campfires at last year's Red Bull Rampage, competitors and spectators alike talked about the "good old rampage days," and eventually, someone would always chime in about how Red Bull should bring back the old Rampage with its' raw lines and natural terrain.
