All Mountain Cyclery operates shuttles every Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. until sundown. Check with the shop before planning a trip, as shuttle schedules may vary, particularly during the hottest parts of summer.
Bootleg Canyon is open 24/7 and is a great night-riding destination, particularly to escape the scorching sun during the summer months, although bright lights and a big set are required to ride the frontside downhill trails in the dark.
On the outskirts of Sin City, winding through the craggy, razor sharp mountains of lava rock overlooking the turquoise waters of Lake Mead and the iconic walls of the Hoover Dam, are some of the most difficult and high-consequence downhill mountain bike trails in the country. Welcome to Bootleg Canyon.
This double-black diamond in the rough sees throngs of industry types every September during Interbike’s Outdoor Demo, most of whom are content to spin through the meandering cross-country trails at the base of the canyon.
But for those in the know who dare to grab a big bike and shuttle to the top of the saddle before pushing even further to reach the summit on a breathtaking hike-a-bike, a maze of steep and technical world-class downhill awaits.
The main fireroad to the saddle divides most of the riding, with the majority of the all-mountain and cross-country trails residing to the west (left if you are driving up) of the road, and the downhill trails dropping off the "frontside" to the east below the infamous radar antennas.
This vast network of more than 36 miles of trail has been forged through years of hard work by many good friends and mountain bike lovers from all over the world, but, there is one man who is largely credited and whose names the locals utter with the utmost respect: The Trail Master and Godfather of Bootleg Canyon, Brent Thompson.
After a brush with death and quadruple bypass heart surgery, Brent chose to ride as a way to get back into shape. Exercise was the initial motivation, but soon a love for the sport—and an uncanny, natural talent for finding flow and sculpting trail—blossomed. What you see etched and carved into Bootleg's steep and undulating terra is its culmination.
In 2009 Brent passed away, but his legacy lives on. It lives through each undulation and berm. It grows through each person’s love of mountain biking. It is sustained through riders traveling to appreciate what a man’s hands are capable of accomplishing.

Bootleg Canyon, (Often referred to as "Bootleg Las Vegas") is conveniently located only 23 miles from the Las Vegas Strip, in one of the coolest mountain biking towns anywhere—and home to the infamous Hoover Dam—Boulder City, NV!
The Armageddon trail is one of three main ways off the top of Bootleg Canyon's frontside (all are advanced/expert), and arguably the most technical—and fun!
After dropping in from the start gate and rolling over the initial toothy rock garden, you will make a sharp right, traversing under the ziplines and into a trail that is largely embedded rock, with steep and technical sections such as the infamous Toilet Bowl—a spiraling rock feature. After several chunky rock rolls that will have you behind your seat, and a few loose corners, you'll want to keep some momentum for a short, rocky up to where Armageddon reconnects with Snakeback and Sidewinder.
From here you'll be able to take an immediate left (before the shelf drop) for Kevorkian. If you go straight and hit the shelf drop (you can go aorund) you will have several options: keep your speed to go up and over the ridge to ride Poop Chute, one of Bootleg's most famous double-black diamond features; go left before the climb to Poop Chute for Ona Lee, a relentless and technically demanding rollercoaster; or stay right to hit the Horseshoe (it will be obvious). You will have several more options at the bottom of the mountain for your final descent.
