Kicking the day off were the ages at different ends of the spectrum, Junior Amateurs under 14 and those of us still living the dream in our “middle ages” in the Cat 1 category, The Masters. Switching gears were the remainder of those nipping on the heels of that “Pro” category, the remainder of the Cat 1 field. Totally worthy of mention….. two Cat 1 Junior 15-16 riders that will soon be making waves and to watch out for, Jay Fesperman GROM Racing (gold) and Shane Leslie High Gear Racing (silver). MAN, these two guys are insanely fast! They both laid down comparable times that would have podiumed each of them in the Junior Pro category (Jay would have taken the Gold and Shane would have taken the Bronze), PLUS, they would have placed 13th and tied for 16th in Pro respectively with the likes of the Aaron Gwin’s and Neko Mullaly’s of the world. Watch out for these two when they turn 19 years old!!!!!
The ladies kicked off the big show at 2:30 p.m. and the number one qualifier, Jackie Harmony. Team Harmony would deliver again securing the gold in dominating fashion almost 10 seconds over the number two spot taken by Melissa Buhl KHS. Congrats ladies.
Big Show – The Final Chapter…….. at 3:00 Luca Cometti hit the start gate as the first junior. 21 riders would follow and ending up with Alex Willie taking gold with a 1.4 edge over Cole Picchiottino taking silver. With a short 5 min break between groups, Jordan Newth would be the first Pro out of the gate. 60 riders later, not too much surprise, Aaron Gwin, the fastest man in the world at the moment would take the gold over fellow team mate Neko Mullaly of Trek World Racing by 3.2 sec and Team Yeti Fox’s Elliot Jackson, 6.8 sec behind.

Thanks to USA Cycling, Beech Mountain Resort, Talia Freeman, Chris Herndon and the rest of the trail crew, the Ski Patrol for working to keep everybody safe, the volunteers for their efforts, and most importantly the Racers and the fans! It was a fantastic two year run with Nationals at Beech and we're looking forward to the official Grand Opening of the bike park at the Resort in 2013!
