Highland is reportedly planning a snow-covered downhill track that links several of its iconic trails. Using the existing trails as a template, the Highland trail crew will groom and sculpt the white stuff in true fat-bike fashion.
In addition the DH race track, other fat bike-friendly lift-accessible trails will be groomed top to bottom as well as plenty of groomed cross-country miles for those looking to earn their turns.
There will be plenty of all-mountain / cross-country trails on tap as well. | Photo: Highland Mountain Bike Park
“We’ve been following the fat bike scene for a while now and thought it would be cool to run the lifts in the winter.” says event co-founder Dave Smutok in a release. “I’m looking forward to extending our operations at Highland into the winter."
The event will allow fat bikes only, and rentals will be available. There will also be an onsite demo garden, cafe, mid-mountain “CLIF Haus” sponsored by CLIF, campfire and apres entertainment at the lodge.
The DH Fat Bike Race is free with registration. The race will be one open class and based on single run timing. Prizes and glory await the fastest riders in this inaugural event.
