“We are committed to bringing world class activities to our beautiful hometown of Charlemont, Massachusetts,” said resort manager Jon Schaefer. “We don’t want to settle for second best and with Gravity Logic we have brought the best downhill mountain bike trail builders in the business to Berkshire East.”

The six new trails are said to include one double-black diamond World Cup-level downhill trail running through what is the Tomahawk Glade in the winter and one green four-mile flow trail off the top with an eight percent grade. The other four trails will likely be a mix of blacks and blues featuring jumps and berms. All gravity trails will be accessible via the new Summit Quad.
The downhill trails will be in addition to an existing 35-mile cross-country trail network linking Berkshire East, Warfield House bed and breakfast and Zoar Outdoor White Water Rafting and Kayaking.
“If people can come out, they can not only access what I think are going to be the best downhill trails in the east, but there are plenty of other things to do,” added Gabe Porter-Henry, the resort’s director of marketing.

Located within two hours of Boston and three and a half hours of Midtown Manhattan, Berkshire East aims to be a Southern New England hub of outdoor recreation, and adding downhill mountain biking seems to be the icing on the cake.
In addition to the new trails, the resort will supply high-end downhill bike rentals, lessons, guided tours, a retail shop, and food and beverage out of its brand new, 12,000-square-foot timber frame lodge.
“The inspiration for the park is rooted in how we do everything at Berkshire East,” Schaefer told MTBparks. “We know that by partnering with Gravity Logic that we can build a awesome mountain bike park in Western Massachusetts and that it will be recognized as such.”

Berkshire East is the first ski area in the world to power itself from onsite renewable energy, features some of the longest zip lines in North America—some spanning more than 2,300 feet—and also claims to have built North America’s longest mountain coaster at 5,450 feet. The resort also features white water rafting in the summer months as well as skiing in the winter.
“I can’t think of another town in new england that has this variety of outdoor activities all in one spot,” added Porter-Henry.
