A Kid that Wants to Ride His Bike
Smith has been coming to Crankworx since the beginning, so there's a special significance to winning here. "When I was a young kid coming here watching these guys, and looking up to them. To actually be one of the top guys at Crankworx it's sick." But in 2014, a broken ankle leaves Smith watching Crankworx from the sidelines instead of competing for his third consecutive win in the Crankworx Whistler Canadian Open Downhill. "Being injured is very frustrating. I see everybody here having a great time and it's just, [I'm] jealous more than anything. Obviously I want to be competing" say Smith, "at the same time it's still cool, cause I never get to see that side of things."
"I'm still just like a little kid that wants to ride his bike... And when I get back on it, I want to go fast."
Every interesting trail has bumps along the way. Find out how Steve Smith is coping with his by watching How Far Does this Trail Go? at the bottom of the page. We're looking forward to seeing Smith back on his feet and competing fully in 2015.
