Snow Summit @ Big Bear Resort Overview
Snow Summit Bike Park is a two-time Top Five winner in the MTBparks.com Riders' Choice Best Bike Parks Awards for the Southwest Region.
Southern California's only lift-served mountain bike park reclaims its Top 5 rank for a second year, and with new owner Mammoth announcing plans to continue expansion, the future is bright for Snow Summit Bike Park. The Gravity Logic designed trails feature a mix of flow and tech as well as manmade and natural features in the breathtaking mountain setting of Big Bear Lake, offering an idyllic respite from the hustle and bustle of the surrounding Southland.
WHAT TO EXPECT RIDING SNOW SUMMIT BIKE PARK
Southern California's only lift-served bike park opened for the summer of 2013 with Gravity Logic, the leader in mountain bike park design, leading the effort to develop all new trails for biking. While there were already steep and unmaintained trails accessible via the lift and Big Bear was a hotbed of NORBA racing until the mid 2000s, this marked Snow Summit's first official debut as a purpose built bike park.
One trail with several routes—Miracle Mile—was the only real trail that first year, but Party Wave and Westridge Trails opened for summer 2014. Both Party Wave and Miracle Mile are advanced runs for experienced mountain bikers and they include upper level features such as step-ups, berms and bridges as well as natural rock features. Westridge is a blue trail geared toward the intermediate rider with some advanced features.
Big bear's trails are soft and loose, making steeper runs feel more like powder skiing at times, but the new trails are well maintained and augmented with pavers for sustainability where necessary.
The first new trail to see completion will be a four-mile green flow trail off the top, offering. Also in the plan is the longest and only "green" mountain bike trail in the Big Bear Valley with full lift service. The crew hopes to have it open for July 4th. Snow Summit continues to work with the National Forest Service to pursue the original plan for this trail designed by Gravity Logic, Inc. Environmental studies and permit gathering are underway.
Chair 4 will also run, helping to manage traffic at the lower lifts and to allow faster laps on the upper sections of trail. Other changes to improve upload capacity include new bike carriers for the lifts.

As the summer progresses the bike park plans to open up more downhill mtb trails on the west side of the mountain including a Blue trail with intermediate features and eventually a Green trail for beginners that offers a gradual and comfortable riding experience.

BIG BEAR LAKE, CA – The Snow Summit Bike Park opened Saturday, following a series of unseasonably late SoCal snow storms that pushed the opener back nearly a week. Weather continued to roll through that morning, but those who stuck around for the afternoon opening enjoyed some of the best early season conditions as the snow quickly melted, giving way to the kind of hero dirt we dream of all winter.
BIG BEAR LAKE, CA – Due to an unexpected late spring storm, some riders woke up to a chain alert en route to opening day at Snow Summit Bike Park. The resort announced that today's opening has been postponed in a statement posted at approximately 7:30 a.m. PST answering the questions riders had been asking over the past 24 hours regarding the changing radar conditions.
Snow Summit, CA – Even in sunny California, all good things must come to an end. The long warm fall allowed Snow Summit to reamain open longer than any other lift-accessed bike park in the west. But Sunday November 9th will be the final day for downhill laps. Friday, Saturday and Sunday will mark the final weekend of operation for the Snow Summit Mountain Bike Park as the resort enjoyed one of the longest mountain biking seasons around, running lifts from April 19th through November 9th.
Snow Summit, CA – After a This just in from the trail crew at Snow Summit / Big Bear...
This week our hard working Trail Crew set out to fix a problematic berm after the new section of Westridge. The once too flat and too tight berm is now fully ripable and leads you into two new jumps. The first of which is a step-up and the second is double roller style. That’s right, more new jumps!
Snow Summit, CA – Winter at Snow Summit is grinding to a stop, and that's great news for moutain bikers ready to hit the trails for the summer gravity season. With anxious riders ready to start logging hot laps off the lift, and the recent announcement of Snow Summit's early season closure, there's no denying that riders will be stoked to hear about the resort's recent announcement.
Big Bear Lake, CA – It may be late in the biking season, but the Snow Summit Trail Crew is still hard at work making daily improvements to their trails. They have added some sweet jumps and reworked berms for ripping down this weekend.
Big Bear Lake, CA - Gravity Logic Inc. and the Snow Summit park staff in southern California have worked tirelessly to open three flowy downhill trails this season. Big Bear, CA – There's still much speculation (and debate) about why Snow Summit abruptly ended their relationship with the downhill biking community back in 2005. Whether it was a lawsuit initiated by an injured rider, the devastating loss of Women's Pro Downhiller Haruko Fujinaka during a 2004 pre-race practice run, or numerous insurance, liability, cost and/or forest service hurdles, it has taken quite some time for Big Bear Lake and Snow Summit Mountain Resort to reconsider returning mountain bike riding to the inbounds resort area.
Big Bear, CA — Big Bear Mountain Resorts plans to open lift operations for the summer season beginning May 26, 2012. The Snow Summit Scenic Sky chair is scheduled to open, weather and conditions permitting, for weekends only beginning May 26th. Daily operations will begin June 16th.
Big Bear, CA — Karen (Super K) Lundgren, one of the foremost authorities on all things mountain bike, adventure and passion, is hosting a special Women’s Only Mountain Bike Retreat scheduled for May 25-28, 2012.
