Whistler Bike Park Overview
Whistler Mountain Bike Park was voted the Best Bike Park in Western Canada in the 2013 and 2014 MTBparks.com Riders' Choice Awards.
Perhaps the best-known bike park in the world, it’s no surprise Whistler reclaims its number one rank. The trail crew here is top notch—builds and signage are some of the most accurate and consistent we’ve encountered. With everything from burly big-mountain lines, to titanic tabletops and silky smooth singletrack, this mountain makes the most of its natural and often rocky terrain.Whistler Mountain Bike Park is considered one of the the pinnacles of BC riding, and BC riding is considered the pinnacle of downhill and freeride biking, and well, you get the picture.
WHAT TO EXPECT RIDING AT WHISTLER MOUNTAIN BIKE PARK
What type of rider would enjoy visiting Whistler Mountain Bike Park?
Whatever kind of biking you might desire, chances are not only will you find it among Whistler's bike parks and trails, but you will find a lot of it, on every level. Whistler Mountain Bike Park's freeride, downhill and cross-country trails are the hallowed grounds and long-time home of some of the most progressive riding and riders on the planet. But there is plenty to ride for the less experienced, because every pro has to start somewhere.
There truly is something for everyone, so beginners shouldn’t be discouraged by the pros in the lift line, but are encouraged to ease into it; the black trails here are probably harder than the ones back home.
Mountain biking has been a mainstay at Whistler Blackcomb since 1992, perhaps longer. But back then there were no bike trails, per se, just fireroads. In the year 2000, long before anyone knew if it would take off, the Whistler Bike Park vision began to form and the first world-class trails began to take shape.
Fifteen years later, the most popular bike-park destination in the world continues to work hard to maintain that vision.
The Latest Improvements at Whistler Mountain Bike Park
Three years ago, the now infamous Top of the World high-alpine trail was unveiled, allowing riders to drop in from the peak of Whistler Mountain, and expanding the park’s vertical drop by over 1,000 feet to over 5,000. Only 150 riders per day get the opportunity to experience this new level of big mountain riding, and if you get the chance to make it to Whistler, you'll want to make sure this trail is on the top of your list. The Top of the World trail is a mind blowing experience, bringing the flow that the Whistler Mountain Bike Park is famous for straight to the peak of Whistler Mountain. With some of the world's best riding set against the granite spires of the Coast Range, the Top of the World trail is certainly among the pinnacle of alpine riding.
In 2013, Whistler Bike Park completed work on the Blue Velvet Trail, giving riders a new top-to-bottom, fast, flowy and fun intermediate trail in the Garbanzo Zone. The resort also began major upgrades on old singletrack trails in the upper mountain, bringing them to current standards. Lower A-Line and EZ Does It underwent alignment improvements last year as well, giving riders a better experience at both ends of the spectrum.
This summer the Whistler trail crew will continue to rework more of the mountain’s older trails. “Look forward to the return of some classics like Clown Shoes that have been closed for some time,” Brian Finestone, Whistler Bike Park Manager, tells us. “As always, we will be putting time into the Biker X and Boneyard as well as the Canadian Open Downhill course.”

Whistler Mountain Bike Park offers something for every level of rider starting with gentle, banked cruisers through the Coastal forest and tight and twisty single track - perfect for intermediate riders. For those that love the gnar, there are steep rock faces, root strewn lines, drops of all sizes and more.
Whistler, is known worldwide for its trails for good reason - it has it all. From green and blue trails like Golden Triangle and Blue Velvet, to the limit of what is ridable on some of the black and double black trails. There's no shortage of jumps in the park either if that is what you're after. It's easy to spend all day making laps in the park, but don't forget the skills center, and all the hidden gems. Whistler has it all, in multitude.
WHISTLER, BC – Take a quick lap around Whistler Bike Park with 11-year-old up-and-coming sensation Jackson Goldstone and 2013 UCI Downhill World Cup Overall Champion Stevie Smith. It's a great reminder that there's nothing more satisfying than simply getting on your bike and just hitting the trail. Two different generations, one singular passion, coming together at Whistler Mountain Bike Park.
WHISTLER, BC – The iconic Dirt Merchant and A-Line in Whistler Mountain Bike Park flow pretty damn well, but Yoann Barelli's runs on a cyclocross bike just takes it to another level. Where's the hand-ups and waffles?
WHISTLER, BC – It's all over. The crowds have dissipated. Careers, memories, mistakes, friends and history have all been made. It's back to business as usual for the Whistler Mountain Bike Park. But if one thing stands out in the memory of those who were there or watched, it's Brandon Semenuk's winning Joyride run. Could this be the best slopestyle run ever?
WHISTLER, BC – Crankworx—the biggest mountain bike event of the year in Whistler, possibly the world—wrapped up 10 days of races, contests, camaraderie and celebration yesterday with two of its signature events—the Joyride and the Canadian Open DH. Culminating with two finales that embody both style and speed respectively. The latter, an all-out testament to downhill racing in its purest, concluded on the legendary course throught the wooded steeps that lie almost hidden beside the massive Joyride slopestyle lines of the Boneyard.
WHISTLER, BC – Rain arrived just in time for the start of Saturday's Red Bull Joyride event, causing organizers to postpone the slopestyle competition until Sunday morning. “With the wet conditions, it will be dark by the time we can dry the course and not be safe to ride at this time. We are calling the competition for today and will kick-off tomorrow morning with great weather predicted ahead,” said Darren Kinnaird, Crankworx World Tour GM.
WHISTLER, BC – You probably don't know his name yet, but chances are that's all going to change very soon. American rookie, Dakotah Norton, swept the dual slalom from the grasp of pros like Tyler McCaul, Kyle Strait and Brendan Howey. It was Jill Kintner who took it for the ladies, but Anneke Beerten was crowned queen a little ahead of schedule when the announcers let her standings slip.
WHISTLER, BC – Aside from the momentum needed to clear the massive tables of Whistler's Crabapple Hits, this is one Crankworx event that places no premium on speed. No, the only thing that matters in the Official Whip-Off World Championships is getting sideways. Perhaps no other Crankworx event captures the spirit of Whistler quite like this—the showmanship, the crowds, the party, the bent wheels.
WHISTLER, BC – The 2015 edition of Crankworx marches on at Whistler Mountain Bike Park, and perhaps the most iconic race, the Garbonzo DH, did not disappoint. More than two miles, it's also one of the longest. The downhill marathon saw racers pinning it in the dry, dusty late-season conditions and nearly 90-degree heat for race runs that were often 15 minutes or more. When it was all over, Claire Buchar and Marcelo Gutierrez-Villegas emerged victorious—again.
WHISTLER, BC – Pushing, pulsing and relentlessly driving, for over a decade the Air Downhill has been the primordial heart of Crankworx. Down the tacky flume of A-Line, Whistler's most iconic trail, every turn’s a berm, every jump’s a tabletop and every moment is a battle of mind over matter. Some 400 racers, one by one, sprint down the mountain, scrubbing bumps and airing 1,200 vertical feet of non-stop bank and boost.
WHISTLER, BC – The annual Dirt Diaries movie competition has become as much a part of Crankworx as the actual competitions. Crowds gathered in the Whistler Olympic Plaza last night for the screening of six five-minute contenders. In this winning "Sickest Edit Ever" from Matt Dennison and IFHT, Kyle "Norbs" Norbraten saves Whistler Mountain Bike Park from its greatest threat yet—rollerbladers.
WHISTLER, BC – Considered by some to be the definitive event of slopestyle if not all of Crankworx, the Red Bull Joyride drops this Saturday in Whistler. Brandon Semenuk, 2014 champion, has one last chance to upset Brett Rheeder's shot at sweeping the Crankworx World Tour. Can he do it?
WHISTLER, BC – Round 6 of the Enduro World Series at Whistler Mountain Bike Park is officially in the books, and Richie Rude and Tracy Moseley walked away with wins. Officially the Canadian Open Enduro, EWS #6 was part of the world-famous Crankworx.
WHISTLER, BC – Speed and Style. Perhaps no other event captures two of the purest elements of mountain biking, often found to be at opposite ends of the spectrum by most. When it comes to gravity fueled competition, many riders consider themselves racers or freeriders, but it takes a certain kind of talent to compete in both, let alone at the same time. It's no wonder then that list of competitors from the Whistler stop of Crankworx reads like a roster of mountain biking's modern pioneers.
WHISTLER, BC – In the latest update from Whistler Mountain Bike Park manager Brian Finestone, he reveals some pretty big news that he calls "the worst kept secret of all time." The park will open its Creekside Gondola for bike access starting August 7, and it will operate from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. seven days per week until September 20 giving riders bike park access from the free parking found at Creekside, the ability to purchase tickets and rentals there as well and access to ride back to the 'Creek or download via the gondola.

WHISTLER, BC – The Whistler Mountain Bike Park announced today that it will be opening the Garbonzo Zone—the second highest of three zones on the mountain—Saturday, June 13, one week ahead of schedule.
WHISTLER, BC – A-Line. It's the lifeline of the Fitz Zone and heartbeat of the Whistler Mountain Bike Park. It's the trail where mega-trains were born and where more laps go down than anywhere else on earth. It's the original freeride trail that gave birth to a new style of riding and it started a movement in the evolution of modern trail designs. But there is only one A-Line, and it's here.
WHISTLER, BC — So you want to clean A-Line, Whistler's iconic, high-speed jump trail? The trail boss at Whistler Bike Park knows you do. This season's changes to the most popular trails were designed to foster rider progression without an ER visit. Trail crews are putting a fresh face on perennial favorites Crank It Up and A-Line, and building a new flow trail slated for early July completion.
WHISTLER, BC – Ever wanted a chance to appear in one of your favorite mountain bike movies? If you're going to be in Western Canada this Friday, now might be your chance. Teton Gravity Research and partner Anthill Films are on the lookout for riders to appear as extras in a Whistler Mountain Bike Park segment of their newest production, unReal.
WHISTLER, BC – With an early opening day Whistler Mountain Bike Park just around the corner, Brian Finestone and the bike park crew have released an update on what to expect in 2015. While the lack of snow allowed for an earlier start to trail work, heavy rain and water damage meant it wasn't easy. But the crew has hit the mark and made some updates for 2015. Find out what the "Next Evolution" holds below.
WHISTLER, BC – Whistler Mountain Bike Park announced recently that it would be opening on May 2, the park's second earliest on record. With that date fast approaching, bike park manager Brian Finestone reflects on the daunting task of preparing the park to hit that mark in his most recent update.
WHISTLER, BC – The Whistler Mountain Bike Park announced today that it will open on May 2, 2015, two weeks ahead of the planned May 15 opening. WHISTLER, BC — In this short edit from Whistler Mountain Bike Park, Tristan Merrick from the park team explains how the Peak Zone and the Top of the World Trail are just the cherry on top of what is arguably the most famous bike park in the world.
WHISTLER, BC — Like many parts of North America this year, 2015 hasn't been anything to brag about when it comes to the white stuff north of the border. But even with a relatively dry spring, there's still a lot of work to do before Whistler Mountain Bike Park will be ready to ride, and it looks like park staff is hiring. Check out the full update from Whistler Mountain Bike Park manager Brian Finestone.
WHISTLER, BC — Stacy Kohut doesn't let being paralyzed from the waist down stop him from shredding Whistler Bike Park—or from doing much of anything for that matter. Watch this rowdy and inspirational edit from Ricci films, and don't let anything stop you from getting out there this weekend.

Whistler, BC – Crankworx Whistler kicks off today with a test of fitness and finesse. When the dirt-adorned descend on Whistler Village for the Fat Tire Crit it's the nearest thing Whistler has to the Running of the Bulls - the criterium brings speed, stoke and spandex to the cobble-stoned streets of Whistler Village as racers whizz past deep throngs of spectators through a technical course of winding chicanes and ramps. Winning the Crit requires more tactical and technical mastery than savagery, making the Fat Tire Crit a crowd-pleaser as racers embrace the law of rider Darwinism: "lap or be lapped."
